HDPE

High Density Polyethylene & High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE)

HDPE/HMWPE is a very durable material which can withstand great friction making it well suited to industrial and chemical applications. HDPE is lightweight yet extremely tough even at low temperatures when may other materials get brittle. HDPE is great at containing liquids as it doesn’t absorb liquids and is resistant to stains and odours and has great chemical resistance. HDPE can be vacuum formed, fabricated, machined and welded. HDPE does come in only black or natural with the black having good UV resistance.

Applications

HDPE has similar applications to ASA in that the material is a good engineering plastic with good UV properties but what sets HDPE apart is it’s water and chemical resistance making it great for tubs, bins, trays, bottles and other large containers that need to hold or are subjected to liquid. However unlike ASA, HDPE can’t be as easily glued so it often requires welding or fasteners to attach it to other materials.

Colours shown above are just representations of a particular colour and aren’t necessarily the finished plastic colour. Lighting conditions, monitor calibration and variances in the plastic colour processing can impact the colour of a given material. For more information on colour availability please contact us.
